Lawmaker’s critics ignore his strengths

I would first like to thank Joseph Shannon (“Krekorian not serving the public,” July 24) for writing such a discriminatory article against Assemblyman Paul Krekorian because it fired up the need for a proper response. It’s quite fascinating that our assemblyman has gotten so much negative PR for his decision to run, yet no one has taken the time to highlight any of his positive attributes.

While it is common for public figures to be scrutinized in the press, Shannon took the liberty to focus on Krekorian’s interest to find a residence in Valley Glen “just in time” for the Los Angeles City Council race. I say, instead of focusing on where or why Krekorian has decided to rent an apartment, why not focus on his campaign initiatives?

Krekorian has an abundant list of accomplished works for the community. While serving as president on the Burbank Unified School District Board of Education, he established “Generation Next,” a mentorship program for at-risk youth in public schools.

Krekorian is also chairman of the Select Committee on the Preservation of California’s Entertainment Industry. He currently sits on the Assembly’s Ethics Committee, and was also appointed to serve on the following committees: Accountability and Administrative Review; Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media; Judiciary; Local Government, and Utilities and Commerce.

Krekorian serves in various types of committees, giving him a vast knowledge of various types of legislation. As assemblyman for the 43rd district, Krekorian represents more than 400,000 residents, drafting bills that have addressed their concerns and needs and will continue to do so as a council member for the city of Los Angeles. Krekorian is the prime example of a truly functional government entity in our state, and should be able to further his work within the community, fostering a larger and happier constituent base.

City Council gadflies could be much worse

Those who are disgruntled over Herbert Molano and his fellow City Council “gadflies” should be grateful that they don’t have to put up with the likes of some of their counterparts who attend the Los Angeles City Council meetings (“Could Molano just please go away?” Aug. 3).
