For example, according to a recent L.A. Daily News Week in Review piece (“Antics not welcome in L.A. City Hall,” Aug. 2) there is a certain, regular speaker, “over there” — one Zuma Dogg — who embellishes his perhaps otherwise sensible rants against wasteful city spending in Los Angeles by “singing and shrieking” his comments!

Another goofy gadfly could well be Michael Hunt, an African American man who reportedly wore a Ku Klux Klan outfit to the chambers of a Los Angeles City Council session recently, prompting several council members to leave the room and terminate the meeting in protest over his decidedly over-the-top decorum.

Now, at least from what I’ve seen myself, Molano has always presented himself with the utmost in proper decorum. By the way, not only that, but a good portion of what he frequently speaks, and/or writes, about makes good, thought-provoking sense.

Artificial grass ideal to help save water

I am very disappointed at the city’s stance in reference to “Not the typical turf war” published Aug. 6. Artificial grass is a viable means to create beautiful green landscape facades as well as save water in these hard times.

Artificial grass should be allowed in front lawns as it is allowed in many Southern California counties, as well as in Nevada and Arizona. Instead of city employees working hard to bring us massive, energy wasting, condominium projects, including the one planned for 1015 Grandview Ave., I suggest they spend their time looking for governmental rebates and incentives that are available for energy conserving measures, such as artificial grass.

It’s time for city of Glendale officials and representatives to reconsider the current ban on artificial grass and wake and smell the lack of water in Southern California. A clear contradiction exists when the city orders the residents to conserve water, helps developers build massive condominium projects, and then insists that artificial grass is banned for front lawns.

As a university instructor I have taught numerous courses in biology, human ecology and environmental sciences.

I would be happy to educate the city officials about different types of grass and artificial grass. In fact, I will put in artificial grass in my front lawn if the rebates become available to the residents.

Let’s see where this issue will take us in the legal arena.
