Trevor Bell called up to majors

Having put together stellar performances at both the double-A and triple-A levels of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim farm system, it appears Trevor Bell will get his shot in the big leagues.

The News-Press received text messages from Bell's agent, Bill Hertz, and Phil Torres, who coached Bell at Crescenta Valley High, on Saturday evening with news that Bell had been called up to pitch for the Angels.

Originally, it was thought that Bell would start on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but it appears more likely that he will start on Wednesday against the Rays in Anaheim.

In 22 combined games with the double-A Arkansas Travelers and the triple-A Salt Lake Bees, Bell has gone 7-7 this year with a 2.70 earned-run average over 140 innings, striking out 89 batters, while walking only 35.

After a phenomenal four seasons at Crescenta Valley, Bell was drafted in the supplementary first round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft with the 37th overall pick.
