Council needs transparency
The League of Women Voters of Glendale/Burbank is disturbed to learn that the City Council is considering alteration of the campaign contribution limit ordinance without a full public discussion (“Officials to vote on use of campaign funds,” Aug. 20).
The ordinance was developed only after careful consideration of the subject and ample opportunity for public comment. The same open transparent process that produced the original ordinance should be in place in any proposal to change it.

Friedman knows not what she asks
What a disappointment to read in the Glendale News-Press that the City Council is considering backtracking on its commitment to campaign finance reform in our city elections (“Officials to vote on use of campaign funds,” Aug. 20).
To try to push it through without affording the public an opportunity to digest what is being proposed as though it were an urgency item is also disturbing.
With all due respect to Councilwoman Laura Friedman, she did not participate in the discussions and many City Council hearings held on campaign finance reform and the eventual adoption of the ordinance and may not fully understand the implications of her request.
I agree with Councilman Ara Najarian that “the idea was to take the money out of the office of City Council as much as we could.” This proposed revision appears to infuse $10,000 of potential “influence” back into each office.
