ZT: Right after the race I was bummed. Other than that, I don’t think I’ve ever [been content], I don’t think so. If you become content, I mean, in my sport you have to hold grudges against everybody, you have to hold grudges against your opponents and yourself. If you become comfortable, then you’re not gonna get better. I don’t say that to sound like I’m being some macho man. Every single race, you have to be, ‘Hey I could’ve done better, I could’ve done this.’ I’m always looking for a way to be that No. 1 and the only time I’m gonna be happy is if I come in first place and everybody else is behind me.
GG: Looking forward to UCLA, have you already started working out with them?
ZT: I’ve already worked out with them a little bit. I started running with a few of my teammates. I really like the guys, I really feel like UCLA’s, it’s just like CV where there’s so much tradition in that school and athletics. [I’m going] to another place where I can represent not just one program of track and field, I can represent a whole athletics program. That’s something I didn’t even think about until I started working out with them. [I realized] I don’t represent me, I don’t even represent track, I represent UCLA, I represent all these people and I gotta work out hard everyday. I’m working out harder than I ever have. ... I really want to make that starting spot and represent UCLA.
