Locals swing through summer

Area baseball and softball squads go on to win district and regional championships.

The 10-11 Crescenta Valley softball team’s stay didn’t last long, as it was outscored in two games, 30-1. It opened with a 15-0 loss to Quartz Hill before suffering a 15-1 loss to Sherman Oaks.

The Vaquero 9-10 Baseball team opened the tournament with an 11-1 loss to Santa Anita before seeing its season finish with a 16-11 loss to Quartz Hill.

A pair of local District 16 champion All-Star Baseball teams suffered tough losses in their respective Section 2 Tournaments, resulting in their seasons coming to a close.

In a Major Baseball contest, Crescenta Valley was handed a 9-6 loss by Encino in seven innings at Scholl Canyon Ballfields. Crescenta Valley held a 6-4 lead entering the top of the sixth, but Encino scored two in the sixth before pushing across three in the seventh to knock out Crescenta Valley.

Crescenta Valley fell to Quartz Hill, 7-6, in an elimination game of the 10-11 Division in the Antelope Valley. Crescenta Valley scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 6-5 lead, but Quartz Hill rallied for the win.
