Man guilty of attempted murder

The man accused of a 2007 drive-by shooting at Brand Park was found guilty Tuesday of attempted murder.

Pasadena resident Harutyun Abrahamyan, who was 21 at the time of the shooting, was also found guilty of shooting at an occupied vehicle and for being a convicted felon in possession of a weapon, police said.

The shooting occurred about 5 p.m. June 26, 2007, when witnesses said Abrahamyan drove his white SUV near the basketball courts on the east side of Brand Park and, after a brief verbal exchange, fired about five gunshots at a group of men.

No one was injured in the shooting, but stray bullets struck a Cadillac sedan carrying three women and one juvenile passenger.

A second man was arrested after a 10-day investigation, but the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office declined to pursue the felony charges before trial, Glendale police Sgt. Dave Higgins said.

The shooting incident sparked outcry from nearby residents, prompting city officials to install a number of changes at the park to cut down on loitering.

Abrahamyan is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 11 in Pasadena Superior Court, Higgins said.
