MAILBAG: Give apartment dwellers a watchdog

September 11, 2009

We should try to reach out to all religious groups, by mail or other ways. A few months ago, I read and saw many stories of the homeless and the helpless, and thought we could put together a citywide program, “Sunday of Hope.”

Now with God’s help, we are still determined to help the homeless. We are asking all houses of worship in the area and neighboring cities to become a receiving place for food, money and other necessities. All gifts that they received would go to the shelter of their choosing.

This could be done through a notice in a Sunday bulletin, two weeks before the Sunday of Hope, which will be Sept. 20. We have more than 100 churches in our Greater Glendale community, so just think of all the gifts that would go to a shelter of their choosing.

How will we know how much was raised? We can count the seeds in an apple, but God can count the apples in the seed, as the saying goes. We know and hope every place of worship has their program and also can be a part of this program.

We in Glendale have so many cultures, and when we can all work together, we can show the country what a great city we have — a city with a big heart.
