During a lunch of tea sandwiches, tea chairwoman Alice McCormick announced her hard-working committee, including Carla Sue Cotti. Cotti, who is also director of writing awards, served the cookies she made from her U.S. Presidents cookbook. (Ulysses S. Grant’s sugar cookies were the favorite.)

Glendale Beautiful began its 60th year with its Annual Dinner at Joe Bridges Clubhouse on Friday. President Kathryn Van Houten welcomed more than 40 members and guests, who turned out to sip, sup and socialize. City Councilwoman Laura Friedman, acting as mayor pro tem, gave greetings from the city. Immediate Past President Gladys Wymore and board member Doyle Kutch were also graceful greeters.
Glendale residents on hand included Joyce Ayvazi, Glendale Clean and Beautiful chairwoman, and her ever lovin’ Joe Ayvazi, representing the West Glendale Gateways Kiwanis, the Glendale Masonic Lodge and Damon’s Steak House (the evening’s caterer).
The busy couple are looking forward to celebrating their 58th wedding anniversary in October. Forest Lawn Community Ambassador Shirley Darling’s presence added gravitas.
Glendale’s Casa Adobe de San Rafael on Dorothy Drive, cared for by members of Glendale Beautiful, will have two days of open houses Dec. 4 and 5.
The Days of the Verdugo’s Heritage Assn. had its annual Fiestacita at the Casa Adobe on Sunday. President Julie Shermer warmly presided over 100 supporters present.
