We have enough Trader Joe’s
I love Trader Joe’s, but I already have four of them within four miles of where I live (“Trader Joe’s seeks Montrose location,” Sept. 18).
Councilman John Drayman mentions Vons grocery store, but evidently is unaware, and the article omits, crucial information that a great mom-and-pop grocery store, Cordon’s Ranch Market, has been serving the residents nearby since the 1940s.
There was a general consensus in the redevelopment study session that the city should invite unique businesses that would complement the existing stores.
The existing parking lot also mitigates parking in the residential neighborhood by the local church and library.
This location was discussed in detail at the Montrose redevelopment meeting, and the majority of those who spoke or submitted comments agreed that another chain store doesn’t benefit the community.
Obviously the lease income is great, but let’s make sure we don’t forget our community’s unique priorities.

Good job on reporting crime
I live in the Archstone complex on Fairfax Avenue where the homicide occurred (“Police suspect foul play,” Sept. 15). I am glad to read this article and find out not only what happened, but also that the suspect is in custody.
I asked the police and Archstone representatives, and neither would tell me anything more beyond the fact that it was a “crime scene.” I understand an investigation was underway, but it’s pretty scary living right near a 48-hour crime scene investigation.

Montrose location better than others
I cannot imagine a better location for a Trader Joe’s than at the west end of the Montrose Shopping Park on Honolulu Avenue (“Trader Joe’s seeks Montrose location,” Sept. 18).
Offer not only plenty parking, but also a level lot! The tiny parking lot at 3433 Foothill Blvd. is on an incline where maneuvering a shopping cart is a challenge to strength and skill.
I have foregone many trips to the La Crescenta location for those reasons, and to the Glendale Trader Joe’s for the travel time and the cost of gas.
The Montrose lot is really a wonderful idea.
A Trader Joe’s in Montrose will always be full of happy customers, enjoying the great food and easy access for the outlying neighborhoods. Make it happen!
