Glendale Memorial receives recognition

Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center announced that in addition to being ranked No. 1 in the state for gastrointestinal surgery, the hospital is ranked among the top three hospitals in all of California and in the top 5% nationwide for heart surgery by HealthGrades, a leading independent health-care ratings organization.

HealthGrades has given Glendale Memorial the Cardiac Surgery Excellence Award. Glendale Memorial is also a recipient of HealthGrades Excellence Awards placing the hospital in the top 10% of the nation for stroke care, general surgery, pulmonary care and gastrointestinal care.

The recognitions are based on HealthGrades’ 12th annual Hospital Quality in America study, released Tuesday, which analyzes patient outcomes at virtually all of the nation’s hospitals.

The HealthGrades study analyzed patient outcomes in nearly 40 million Medicare hospitalization records from 5,000 hospitals for 2006, 2007 and 2008. The new HealthGrades hospital ratings are posted at www.healthgrades. com.

Carraz to close after 25 years in business

After 25 years in business, Carraz, whose last store is in the Glendale Galleria, is going out of business.

Carraz will close after a quarter century selling formal wear and accessories.

According to owner Suzanne Aguila, Carraz is closing due to declining sales.

A going-out-of-business sale is taking place now to liquidate its entire inventory. The sale will run through mid-December, or until everything is sold. All of the inventory will be sold at reduced prices.

Preferred customers will be given a sneak preview of the sale items. Carraz is on the first level of the Glendale Galleria, between the entrances to Target and Macy’s.
