Glendale Water & Power on Monday was among nine utilities recognized nationwide for their water resource programs and infrastructures.

The Assn. of Metropolitan Water Agencies, the nation’s largest industry organization for publicly owned water utilities, gave Glendale Water & Power the Gold Award for its stellar water quality, asset management, financial integrity, and infrastructure maintenance and technological advances.

The utility is moving ahead with a program to replace all of Glendale’s electrical and water connections with “smart meters,” providing customers with real-time usage data. The citywide project is planned for completion by early 2011.
