But the Indians may also be tempted to expand quarterback Tyler Yanez’s role after Crescenta valley surrendered 300 passing yards to Pasadena.

Glendale at Muir (7 p.m. Friday): Five games into a thus-far winless league campaign, the Nitros just aren’t getting any breaks.

They’re not making any game-changing defensive plays to help themselves out either, according to Coach Alan Eberhart.

Linden Anderson’s interception last week against Burroughs was just the team’s third of the season and the Nitros haven’t been able to stop opponents from scoring at a rate of 51.5 points per game over the last four weeks.

Glendale (1-8) may have a better chance at forcing some much-needed turnovers this week against a Mustangs squad that gambles on big plays more than the conservative Indians do.

Doing so could take some of the pressure off quarterback Moises Chavez and a Nitros offense that has been consistently shaky at best.

Muir (2-6, 2-3) is in the midst of a down season by its own league-title winning standards, but has won two of its last three in league.

Hoover vs. Arcadia (7 p.m. Friday) at Moyse Field: The Tornadoes (1-7, 0-5) will be looking to pick up their first league win this season on Friday, and they’re certainly not facing one of the stronger Apaches teams in recent memory.

Arcadia (1-6-1, 1-4) hasn’t won since beating Glendale in its league opener on Oct. 1, although the Apaches have been more competitive than the Tornadoes against common opposition.

The Tornadoes defense has shown positive signs, including last week’s 25-0 loss to defending league-champion Muir, in which 12 of the Mustangs’ points were a result of Hoover turnovers.

Ivan Tello and Daniel Cruz each recovered fumbles and Wilfred Ong had an interception for Hoover, which opened last year’s league campaign with a 48-0 loss to the Apaches.

Flintridge Prep vs. Viewpoint (7 p.m. Friday) at Occidental College: If the Rebels (2-5, 1-2) intend to make the Northeast Division playoffs for the third straight year they will likely have to win their two remaining Prep League games this season and will certainly have to win Friday’s game against the 0-7 Valiants for the season finale against Chadwick to be meaningful.

With 8-0 Rio Hondo Prep holding court atop the league standings, the Rebels are chasing Chadwick (7-1, 2-1) and Pasadena Poly (5-3, 2-1) for one of the two remaining playoff spots.

Prep got its first league win last week, 24-21, over Webb, which is also still in the playoff picture, hanging at 1-2 in a fourth-place tie with the Rebels.

Kory Hamane finished with 97 total yards for Prep against the Gauls and scored the game-winning touchdown on a 10-yard run.
