Schools cluster for meeting

A joint PTSA and Cluster Meeting will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 7 in the Glendale High cafeteria.

PTA members and friends from cluster schools Wilson, Roosevelt, Cerritos, College View, Glenoaks, Mann, Marshall, Muir, R.D. White and Verdugo Woodlands are invited. Any parents in the Glendale High School area, even those with children attending private schools, are also welcome.

The gathering features refreshments and a program by Glendale High students and Principal Deb Rinder for attendees to discover the range and quality of programs offered at Glendale High School, PTSA President Sydney Swainston said.

Performing and visual arts displays will be balanced by reports on academic and vocational options available. Optional donations of new toys and books will be collected for Glendale Healthy Start. Reservations can be made by contacting Swainston at swainston@sbcglobal.net or Carol Attarian, Glendale High PTSA first vice president, at cattaria@travelers.com.

R.D. White PTA Historian Kristin Pardo announces the next Adopt-a-Block for Saturday. A special “thank you” is offered to custodian Robert Struck who dedicates his time to opening up the school for this neighborhood event. Pardo also walks with the group around the block, making sure trash and recyclables are properly disposed of.

Glendale High School

Glendale High celebrates homecoming with a pep rally Friday, which also heralds the end of the first quarter with a minimum bell schedule. The homecoming football game begins at 7 p.m. against Hoover High School. The game is preceded by homecoming festivities at 6 p.m. Celebration culminates with the homecoming dance at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Gene Autry Museum.

Wilson Middle School

PTSA President Helena Williams catches her breath as Red Ribbon Week, Reflections and food drive activities make way for the final stretch of the membership drive.

The combined PTSA meeting with Glendale High is going to be even larger this year, and they are looking forward to the evening hosted by Glendale High Dec. 7. Finally, it’s time to begin recruiting for the 2010-11 PTSA Board with the election of a nominating committee.

College View School

The PTA thanks everyone who supported its 25th anniversary event where more than 80 ceramic tiles were painted. These individualized “gifts” will be installed on campus at a later date.
