GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes competing at the collegiate level:

Eric Kleinsasser (Crescenta Valley High, 2007) sophomore, Occidental College men’s cross-country: Kleinsasser achieved All-American status Saturday. Kleinsasser wrapped up the final All-American spot after he clocked 26 minutes 8.4 seconds to finish 35th on an 8K course on Highland Park Golf Course at the NCAA Division III championships at Baldwin-Wallace College in Cleveland.

Kleinsasser, who was named the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Runner of the Year for the second season in a row, tied with Frank Reynolds of Puget Sound University. According to Occidental College’s athletic website, Kleinsasser was in the top three entering the end of the first mile before falling back into the pack at around 40th.

“I felt good throughout the race and it went how I wanted it to,” Kleinsasser told the university’s website. “The course was in pretty good condition, but had muddy patches in places, making things difficult for everyone at points.”

“I knew I had to move up in the pack and when I heard the numbers I realized it was a matter of reeling people in during the last mile of the race. I was able to do that and grabbed the last All-American spot.”

Rebecca Salvo (Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 2006) senior, outside hitter, Haverford College women’s volleyball: Salvo, a former All-Area first-team member, was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Assn. All-America Team for the fourth consecutive season. Salvo earned third-team honors.

This season, Salvo led the Centennial Conference with 446 kills and was second with 3.54 per set. Defensively, Salvo led the conference with 523 digs while averaging 4.15 per set and helped the Fords win their fourth conference championship in a row.

Rachel Salvo (Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, 2006) senior, middle hitter, Haverford College women’s volleyball: The former All-Area first-team pick helped Haverford College win its fourth straight Centennial Conference crown this season en route to receiving All-American honorable mention honors for the second time in her career.

Salvo averaged 2.92 kills and 3.17 digs per set this season. She notched 353 kills, fourth best in conference.

Salvo finished the season with 383 digs and was one of just four players in the conference with at least 330 kills and 330 digs.
