“Our first four races when we were racing this thing, we broke it because we didn’t know how to drive it,” Pondella says. “You drive it too hard into something or you’re jumping it too hard, because we didn’t have it set up [properly]. The set up on these things is intense.”

But with experience came success and with success has come recognition.

“They learned a lot their first season and it they did a pretty good job for their second year into it,” Kimbrel says. “They’re definitely a big threat in the future. We’re pretty excited to have them in there.”

Pondella plans to be back for the MDR Series and maybe a few other events next season, but doesn’t figure to lose sight of what drew him to the sport.

“We’re not like crazies that want, want, want, you know, ‘Put your name on my truck, I’ll get you some exposure,’” Pondella says. “We want to go out and race and have fun, make a bonfire out there...That’s what racing is. These guys are smart mechanics, all of them.”
