GLENDALE — Two residents were arrested Wednesday morning after they allegedly threw a bag of syringes out of their car window while fleeing from police, officials said.
Gayanti Shakhmuradyan, 25, and Sevak Zadori, 24, were arrested on suspicion of evading police and possessing heroin and drug paraphernalia, Glendale Police Sgt. Tom Lorenz said.
A resident spotted the pair using drugs inside a car parked in the 1100 block of Sonora Avenue at 10:49 a.m. and called police, he said.
An officer saw the pair inside the car, shone the patrol car’s police lights on it and asked them to show their hands, fearing that they had a weapon or were destroying evidence, Lorenz said.
But instead, Zadori yelled “Police,” shook his head, reversed the car toward the officer and took off as the officer yelled for him to stop, Lorenz said.
The officer and other police units then chased the pair, who allegedly threw out a bag of syringes and a burnt spoon from the car window, Lorenz said.
After the pair drove through stop signs, they finally came to a halt in the 1400 block of Virginia Avenue, Lorenz said.
Police reportedly found heroin during a search of the car, Lorenz added.
As officers walked along Sonora Avenue, they found the needles that the pair threw out the window.
The officer who approached the vehicle was not harmed during the vehicle back up.
