Nevertheless, it was Eclar who was the catalyst for the Cougars in keeping the Gaels at bay during their fourth-quarter comeback bid.

Holy Family’s Gayle Lachica, who had seven points, all on free throws, knocked down a pair of charity shots to open the fourth-quarter scoring with 5:43 left in the game. That cut the score to 20-14 before Jennifer Fisher, who had seven points, converted a layup, also with 5:43 remaining. Possession changed hands in front of the Holy Family basket four times before Fisher got an open layup attempt — all the while, the clock wasn’t running due to a snafu at the scorer’s table.

Another pair of free throws by Lachica, who also had eight rebounds, and another layup by Fisher, who dribbled through four defenders, cut the score to 25-22 with 38 seconds left.

“We just kept giving them opportunities off of our turnovers,” Lindstadt said.

But the Cougars would score the final eight points of the game, five coming from Eclar, to seal the win.

Chantel Robinson and Natalia Ioriano also had seven points each for the Cougars.

Holy Family’s Elena Lomeli had nine rebounds and four steals, while Fisher added seven steals and four blocks.
