GLENDALE — Twelve games into his 10th season as coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Glendale Community College alumnus Andy Reid ensured his presence on the sideline for another three years.

Reid and the Eagles agreed to a contract extension good through the 2013 season on Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but Reid will reportedly earn between $5-$6 million per season.

“I’m a piece of the puzzle here, and by my waist size I’m a big piece, but in reality I’m just a piece of the puzzle,” Reid told reporters on Wednesday. “I love Philadelphia. The fans, there is nothing like them. They have just been unbelievable. They’re fair. If we stink, they let us know we stink, if we’re doing OK, they let us know we’re doing OK, but they’re always there. That support is phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal.”

At 115-73-1, Reid is the winningest coach in team history, having led the Eagles to five NFC title games and one Super Bowl in 2004, where they were defeated by the New England Patriots.

“It was inevitable. There’s no point waiting,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie told reporters regarding Reid’s extension at a news conference Wednesday. “This sends a great message to the players right in the middle of the season. I’ve always valued stability.”

Hired in 1999, Reid led the Eagles to a string of five straight playoff appearances beginning in his second season and on Dec. 6 became only the fourth coach in pro football history to win 100 or more games with a single team in a single decade.

The Eagles are currently tied with the Dallas Cowboys for the lead in the NFC East at 8-4 with a conference game against the New York Giants up next at 5:20 PDT on Sunday.
