Markus Monroe (Glendale Community College, 2009) junior guard, Lewis-Clark State College: Monroe, a two-time All-Western State Conference selection with Glendale college, finished with a game-high 10 rebounds and 17 points Saturday to spark Lewis-Clark to an 89-74 nonconference road victory against Walla Walla University.
Monroe, who earned all-state honors last season after averaging 22.2 points per game and finishing his career as the program’s fourth all-time leading point scorer at Glendale college, made eight of 14 shots from the floor and contributed four assists.
He also had some quality outings for the Warriors during the Cannon’s Building Materials Tournament, which was held Nov. 27-28 in Lewiston, Idaho. For example, Monroe finished with a team-high 19 points in a 79-65 loss to Evergreen State College on Nov. 27.
Monroe, who missed a pair of games, is averaging a team-best 18.8 points and four rebounds per game this season. The Warriors are 7-3 entering Thursday’s nonconference road game against Azusa Pacific University.
Shaun Kermah (Glendale Community College, 2007) senior running back, Tennessee-Chattanooga football: The Hoover High graduate concluded his collegiate career Nov. 21 during the Mocs’ 45-0 nonconference road loss to Alabama. He rushed for 18 yards in six carries.
In 10 games played, Kermah rushed seven times for 19 yards.
The Mocs finished the season at 6-5 after going 1-11 in 2008.
Austin Heyworth (St. Francis High, 2009) freshman quarterback, UC Davis football: Heyworth and the Aggies saw their season end Nov. 21 with a 31-28 loss to host Sacramento State in a Great West Conference contest. Heyworth, who was named the conference’s offensive player of the week earlier in the season, did not play against Sacramento State.
Heyworth participated in four games this season. He completed seven of nine passes for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His best performance came in relief during a conference game against Portland State on Oct. 24 in which he completed six of eight passes for 82 yards in a 34-31 victory.
