Joining the challenge is free, but to add another level of commitment and motivation, participants may choose to donate to Glendale Healthy Kids a specific dollar amount per pound they lose. Knowing that their weight-loss efforts are helping others may give some participants extra incentive to stay on track throughout the year.
Glendale Healthy Kids provides children of low-income, underinsured families with access to health care and provides health education to the community.
The kickoff for “Lose a Ton in ’10” will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday at the Glendale Chess Park, 227 N. Brand Blvd., in the passageway next to Kinko’s. Participants will be weighed in (privately, not in “The Biggest Loser” style), and All About You! Wellness BootCamp will present a “Weight Loss Facts” seminar.
Earlier that morning, the Glendale Downtown Dash 5K Training program will also kick off in the same location at 8 a.m.
This training program helps walkers and runners prepare for the March 14 race.
“Lose a Ton in ’10” participants are encouraged to participate in the 5K training program as a way to improve their fitness in a friendly, supportive environment.
Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to challenge their employees, customers and members to get involved. Some organizations have even begun challenging each other.
To register, go to GlendaleAdventist.com/LoseATon or for information call (818) 437-5523.
Let’s all work together to improve our health, be great role models for our children, and raise funds for a worthy cause.
