Mailbag: Tell me more about this magic whiskey

January 17, 2010

In Joyce Rudolph’s Jan. 13 article on longtime La Crescenta resident Bill Bowman, “Centenarian shares secrets,” she mentions in the opening paragraph that Bowman attributes living to be 100 years of age to three things: “A balanced diet, daily walk and good Irish whiskey . . . ”

In the article she describes how Bowman approaches his diet and how far he walks every day, but she fails to mention how much or what kind of “good Irish whiskey” he drinks every day.

Now, I am very interested in living a longer life, but I am not quite sure whether I am drinking enough Irish whiskey or too little, let alone the fact that I might be drinking the wrong brand.

If you could, would you ask Bowman about this and get back to me concerning this matter?

I am only 57 and want to live another 43 years, and be like Bowman, but I want to make sure I am doing the right things. Until I hear from you, or him, I will be drinking only iced tea.

Hit-run perpetrator should turn self in

It wasn’t very fair that Joo Lee died as a result of a terrible accident that he didn’t even see coming (“Reward posted in fatal hit-run,” Jan. 13).

The suspect should have at least stopped to check on the victim he or she ran over. Whoever did this terrible thing should just turn themselves in and get the punishment he or she deserves.

Charter charts a course of frustration

Regarding the Jan. 14 story, “Legal move for TV channels” and “City aims to block cable co.” on Jan. 15, it is unfortunate that the city, with all it’s got on its plate these days, also must contend with legal matters involving Charter Communications and its demand for a local channel rearrangement, which would cost the city in brand modification requirements.

Long a poorly run company on all fronts, Glendale and Burbank residents have been stuck with years of Charter’s inept customer service until only recently, and things aren’t exactly looking up.
