St. Francis 16, Village Christian 2: The host Golden Knights kicked off their season Monday with a nonleague win at Fremont Tennis Center.
John Kazanjian won his three singles sets (6-0, 6-0, 6-2) and Christopher Grosuevor swept his three sets (6-4, 6-2,6-0).

Village Christian 3, Crescenta Valley 2: The host Falcons fell Tuesday in their season opener, 19-25, 29-27, 18-25, 25-22, 15-8.
Oakwood 3, Flintridge Prep 1: Host Flintridge Prep began its season Tuesday with a 18-25, 25-22, 32-30, 25-22 nonleague defeat.
St. Francis 3, Temple City 2: Matt Grace contributed 53 assists for St. Francis on Monday in a season-opening 25-23, 15-25, 25-23, 22-25, 15-12 nonleague home victory.
It marked the first time in two seasons that the Golden Knights won a match. St. Francis received 17 kills from Michael Bacall, 15 from Wesley Coffey and 10 from Brandon Kim.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Vaqueros sweep nonconference doubleheader: Glendale college picked up a pair of nonconference victories Tuesday against Santa Barbara City College at Stengel Field. The Vaqueros won the first game, 8-2, before registering a 5-0 win in the nightcap.
In the first game, Ruben Padilla and Nash Hutter each recorded a pair of hits. Reliever Casey Manheim picked up the win.
Tommy Cruz finished with a pair of stolen bases and scored twice in the nightcap for the Vaqueros, who saw starting pitcher Michael Noteware strike out eight in five innings to get the win.

Ventura College 8, Glendale Community College 1: The Vaqueros suffered a Western State Conference home loss Tuesday. The Vaqueros (3-5 and 0-3 in conference) received a doubles win from Emanuel Haug and Joey Tresierras.

Ventura College 8, Glendale Community College 1: The visiting Vaqueros fell Tuesday in a Western State Conference match. Glendale college (3-5 and 1-3 in conference) got an 8-2 doubles win from Sarah Aguilar and Mineli Ebrahimi.
MEN’S GOLF
Vaqueros tie for second in conference match: Glendale Community College kicked off Western State Conference competition Monday, shooting a 381 to tie for second at Alisal Ranch Country Club in Solvang.
Glendale college and Ventura College each shot a 381, three strokes behind College of the Canyons. Nick Quintanilla of Glendale college shot a two-under-par 70 to earn medalist honors. The Vaqueros got 75s from Brennan Amirkhizi and Erik Stratton, an 80 from Bernard Leon and an 81 from Joe Boonoppornkul.
