GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes at the collegiate level.

Mackenna Karasawa (Glendale Community College, 2008) senior guard, Hawaii Pacific University basketball senior: After clinching the program’s first-ever NCAA West Region Tournament berth on March 4, the Sea Warriors wrapped up their first-ever Pac West Conference championship with an 86-61 home win over BYU Hawaii in the regular-season finale on Monday night.

Karasawa scored 13 points and dished out four assists in the win, which came on the heels of a missed chance to clinch the title in a 99-80 loss to Dixie State on Saturday.

Now, the Sea Warriors (18-6, 14-2 in conference) will travel to Seattle to take on Seattle Pacific University in the first round of the tournament at 7:30 PST on Friday.

Dustin Emmons (Crescenta Valley High, 2008) UC Riverside baseball junior: Thrown into a high-pressure situation on Tuesday night, the former Falcon rose to the occasion.

Emmons relieved Highlanders starting pitcher Trevor Frank in the bottom of the seventh inning of a tie game at No. 10-ranked UCLA. He allowed a one-out single, but induced a fly ball out from the next batter and picked Beau Amaral off first base to get out of the frame.

Emmons also got out of an eighth-inning jam when Tyler Rahmatulla was thrown out at home trying to score on a single by Cody Keefer.

UCLA would win the game, however, 3-2, on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning after Emmons had already been removed.

Emmons is 2-1 with a 5.28 earned-run average in four appearances, including two starts. The Highlanders are 7-5 on the season.

Christian Bergman (St. Francis High, 2006) UC Irvine baseball senior: After failing to record a decision in three starts to begin the season, Bergman made a relief appearance in the Anteaters’ 8-4 home win over San Diego on Tuesday.

In a non-save situation, Bergman gave up two hits, but put a scoreless inning in the books to lower his ERA to 8.22.

UC Irvine (7-5) is ranked No. 11.

Sara Hollar (Flintridge Prep, 2007) junior, Wheaton College women’s swimming and diving: Hollar was one of five members of her team recently named to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference teams for the winter of 2009-10, according to a press release from the college on Friday.

Recipients of the award must maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better upon completion of the 2009 fall semester, attain at least a sophomore year standing and be a competing member of a varsity team for the entire season.

Hollar recently helped the Lyons take third place for the third consecutive year at the NEWMAC Championships on Feb. 21.

Chris Hertz (St. Francis High, 2005) senior outfielder, California Lutheran University baseball: Hertz went three for seven in a doubleheader sweep of Claremont Mudd Scripps on Saturday.

The former Golden Knight started in right field in both games, scoring a run in the Kingsmen’s 10-4 opening win and driving in a run in the 7-4 nightcap.

On the year, Hertz is batting .432 with 11 runs batted and 11 runs scored.

Cal Lutheran is 9-7.
