GLENDALE — The following are updates on area athletes at the collegiate level.

Jesse Meaux (Glendale High, 2007) UC Santa Barbara junior pitcher: Meaux has pitched his way to a blistering start, his latest outing seeing him pitch UCSB to a 13-4 victory against Northern Illinois on Sunday at home, finishing a four-game sweep of the Huskies.

Meaux has made four appearances and started three games, with Sunday’s start leading to him going 3-0 on the season, already equaling his record from a year ago.

He twirled seven innings, giving up two runs, but both were unearned. He also had two strikeouts to two walks and lowered his earned-run average to a spectacular 1.59.

Meaux earned a save in his previous appearance, pitching 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief, as the Gauchos beat Stanford, 15-11, on March 7.

For the season, he’s struck out 11 and walked four and given up four earned runs in just over 22 innings pitched.

The Gauchos are 8-4 and host New Mexico State on Saturday in a doubleheader.

Heather Brusokas (Glendale High, 2006) Davenport University junior shortstop: The former Nitros standout is on a tear this season and is riding a 10-game hitting streak, having propelled Davenport to a 17-5 record.

Thus far, having played in all 22 games and started 21, she’s hitting .391 with 23 runs scored, 17 runs batted in, a .725 slugging percentage, four home runs, 13 walks and a team-high .488 on-base percentage.

Her most recent big game came in a 13-6 win over Reinhardt College on Saturday in which Brusokas went three for five with two runs and two runs batted in.

Davenport is back in action on Friday against Judson in the Indiana Wesleyan Tournament.

Christian Bergman (St. Francis High) UC Irvine senior pitcher: Having struggled early this season to the point of coming out of the bullpen, Bergman found success in a big way, notching his first win of the year on Saturday, as the Anteaters beat Sacramento State, 5-3, on the strength of the former Golden Knight’s complete game.

Bergman allowed three runs and seven hits over nine innings, striking out six and walking none.

Bergman now has a 6.29 ERA in just over 24 innings pitched, with 14 strikeouts to three walks.

Irvine is 9-6.

Brenton Wunner (Glendale Community College, 2009) Occidental College junior catcher: The former Vaquero went two for three with a run scored and a walk on Saturday, but Occidental lost to La Verne, 7-4, in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

On the season, the Tigers are 7-12 and 4-8 in the SCIAC, while Wunner has played in 17 games, starting in 14. He’s hitting .256 with 11 hits, four runs and four runs batted in.

All 11 hits have come in conference play, however, where he’s batted at a .379 clip.

Oxy travels to face Chapman on Saturday.
