Armenian organizers to discuss resolution

Leaders from the group United Young Armenians are scheduled to appear Thursday on “The Larry Zarian Show” to discuss the Armenian Genocide resolution in Congress, which has continuously stalled over the years amid fears that it would hurt U.S. relations with Turkey.

On March 4, the resolution officially recognizing the Armenian Genocide passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee 23 to 22 amid opposition from members of both parties who warned it could damage relations with Turkey, a strategic ally in the Middle East.

A similar effort failed in 2007 as a full House vote got closer.

Aroutin Hartounian, president of the United Young Armenians, which organizes thousands of genocide bill supporters for a rally in Hollywood each year, will discuss the latest development and ongoing challenges in bringing the resolution to a full vote in Congress.

Milena Mailyan, public relations director for the group, is also slated to appear on the show, which airs at 7 p.m. on Channel 280. The viewer call-in number is (818) 547-3668.
