Community pride was recently bestowed on R.D. White Elementary School and Whole Foods with an Adopt-A-Block plaque from the city of Glendale. For the past year, the school and market have dedicated at least one Saturday a month to keeping the neighborhood around the school trash free.
Special acknowledgment was given to Robert Struck, Kari Vanda and Kristin Pardo for initiating this school-business venture. The next Adopt-A-Block clean-up is at 11 a.m. April 17, weather permitting. Families and community members are encouraged to join the fun.
Horace Mann Elementary School has received the Urban Excellence in Education Award. It was one of 13 schools nationwide recognized. The Glendale Unified School District Board of Education will present the official award to school staff May 6.
