Mailbag: Meters have wrecked nights out in city

May 01, 2010

About a month ago some friends and I went to Clancy’s Crab Broiler on South Central Avenue for dinner. We went back to our car that was parked in the metered parking lot on Salem Street.

There was a ticket on the windshield; it was about 8:30 p.m. Dark, there were two light fixtures in the middle of the lot, but the light on our side was out so we did not see down about four parking spots that had some information about the meters going on until 10 p.m. There were other cars with tickets.

On April 17, my lady and I went back to Clancy’s, even though we swore we wouldn’t go to any more restaurants in Glendale because of the meters. Well guess what, the overhead light in the lot was still out, and I did see a couple cars that had tickets.

When I put some coins into the meter, there was no light in the meter, so I could not see how much time was on it, so I put a bunch more quarters in and prayed there were enough for us to have dinner and make it back to the car before getting a ticket ourselves. I myself will boycott Glendale restaurants and will be telling anyone who will listen to stop visiting businesses in Glendale until they put the meters back to a 6 p.m. limit.
