Glendale City Council Meeting Preview: Street signs

May 10, 2010

The City Council on Tuesday will consider an approximately $700,000 contract with the company 3M for the replacement of the city’s 4,500 street name signs.

The new signs will be equipped with a new technology that make signs more visible to drivers at night.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council is expected to approve the contract.

Le Mesnager Barn

The council will consider a grant application to the state’s Nature Education Facilities Program to help turn the Le Mesnager Barn at Deukmejian Wilderness Park into an interpretive center, which can host classes, lectures and meetings.

The City Council earlier this year approved plans for seismic upgrades at the barn.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council is expected to approve the application.

Treasurer’s report

City Treasurer Ron Borucki will provide the council with the quarterly report on the city’s portfolio, which ended March at $455 million, down $21 million from December because of a $23-million buy-out of the Scholl Canyon Landfill gas contract.

The average rate of return dropped one percentage point to 1.93%, according to the report.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely note and file the report.
