GLENDALE — Crescenta Valley High boys’ golf Coach John Pehar wanted improvement from his team during their last match of the season.

He got it in the form of six strokes.

Crescenta Valley saw its season come to an end Monday afternoon with a reported 13th-place finish at the CIF Southern Section Northern Team Divisional at Soule Park Golf Club in Ojai.

The Falcons, who took second in the Pacific League this season behind Arcadia, finished with a 417. Crescenta Valley shot a 423 at last year’s installment to take 14th.

“We are a young team and we did play pretty well,” Pehar said. “The greens were tough and the wind was blowing pretty good from out of the south. The pins were very difficult.

“It’s a great experience for them and I’m happy with the way they played and improved.”

Calabasas won the tournament with a 386, followed by Arcadia (387) and West Ranch (388). Calabasas, Arcadia and West Ranch will next partake in the CIF Team Championship Final, which will be held at 8 a.m. Thursday at Redhawk Golf Club in Temecula. JJ Holldon of West Ranch carded a three-under-par 69 to earn medalist honors.

Crescenta Valley received a 77 from Michael Timpson, a reigning All-Area member, on the 6,750-yard course. The Falcons also got an 81 from Jason Kim, an 85 from Aaron Peskett, an 86 from John Lee and an 88 from Adrian Chia.

The Glendale Community College-bound Timpson, who won the league’s individual crown this season, said the Falcons made strides toward the end of the regular season and through Monday’s competition.

“I thought I played well and there were a lot of good players out there who shot in the high 70s,” said Timpson, who carded a 74 at last season’s event. “Overall, we played well.

“The team did better considering how hard the course was playing. We beat our team score from last year. The greens were a lot harder and faster compared to last year.”

Burbank shot a 424 and Burroughs fired a 433.
