Glendale City Council Meeting Preview: Trader Joe’s

May 23, 2010

The City Council on Tuesday will consider leasing city-owned property at 2448-2468 Honolulu Avenue in Montrose to Trader Joe’s Company for the construction of a 14,670-square-foot single-story grocery store.

The city-owned, 45,000-square-foot lot at Honolulu and Orangedale avenues was previously home to a Ford dealership and sits across the street from the Montrose branch library and fire station.

Under the proposed lease, the city will receive $220,000 annually.

The proposed project has received support from community members, who say the grocery chain will fit in well with the area’s character.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The City Council is expected to approve the lease agreement after vocalizing support when it was introduced last week.

Phone contract

The council will consider an agreement with AT&T for reduced costs for telephone land line service.

Under the two-year agreement, the city would enter into a contract negotiated by the state of California, resulting in a savings of between $157,000 and $190,000 annually.

WHAT TO EXPECT

The council will likely approve the contract.
