The former UCLA student who police said faked her own kidnapping has been hit with a misdemeanor charge of filing a false report.
Merced County prosecutors filed the charge Friday, according to KTLA-News.
Salas — a 2005 Glendale High School graduate — was reported missing May 12 after failing to return from a morning jog.
Her disappearance was treated as suspicious after police discovered she had left her keys, phone and car at her house.
The search took a turn when police discovered that Salas had apparently convinced her parents she was graduating from UCLA this year. UCLA records show she has not been enrolled since Fall 2008.
