Graduation time is always fun, and it is so inspirational to watch and hear the students talk about their future goals. The Glendale Kiwanis Club for many years has recognized graduating students and given scholarships to help them reach their next goals. This year, the Kiwanis Club gave eight students each a $2,500 scholarship.

Selecting those students from the many very qualified scholarship applicants was certainly no easy job for the Kiwanis scholarship committee. The committee interviewed and reviewed student scholarship applications from five area high schools and Glendale Community College before making the decision.

The students who received the scholarships are a very impressive and articulate group of young people, beginning with Thomas Queally V from Glendale High School who is going to UC Berkeley to double major in French and international relations.

Louise Lee and Vhe Zograbyan, graduates from Hoover High School, have solid plans. Louise plans to attend UCLA to major in biochemistry, and Vhe plans to attend UC Irvine to start on the path to become a surgeon/physician.

Lara Kumjian, a Clark Magnet High School graduate, also plans to attend UC Irvine to major in biology and become a physician in family practice and pediatrics.

Geovany Siguenza graduated from the Glendale Adventist Academy. He plans to attend Pacific Union College in Loma Linda to major in chemistry, and then go on to medical school.

Melissa Franco and Taleen Guzman both graduated from Holy Family High School. Melissa plans to attend UC Davis to major in chemistry and then go to medical school. Taleen plans to go to USC with double majors in landscape architecture and urban planning.

Tigranuki Stepanyan is completing her goals at Glendale Community College and will be going to UCLA in the fall. She plans to major in psychology. After graduation from UCLA, she plans to attend medical school.

The Glendale Kiwanis Foundation funds the scholarships that are given memorializing many Kiwanians including Tom Miller, Tom Bistagne, Park Arnold, Emil Kiefer and many others.

Glendale Kiwanis Club meets at noon every Friday at the Glendale Elks Club, 120 E. Colorado St., Glendale. For information call Vic Legerton at (818) 354-8838.
