To this voter, it is clear why Ramani lost and why Gatto won.
Bible's full of unsavory traditions
So Proposition 8 has been overturned by a judge as unconstitutional. No doubt the people of faith will be screaming about the attack on tradition.
The odd thing is that the major financial backer of Proposition 8, the Mormon church, was founded on the basis of polygamy. Later, the marriage laws of the church were changed.
But what Mormons won't tell you is they simply pushed polygamy to their afterlife! Yes, you heard me right. Mormon doctrine states that marriage in heaven includes polygamy. So much for tradition and honesty.
As for the other Bible thumpers, why is marriage the only tradition they cling to — going to the voting booth to impose it on everybody? Child brides, stoning, segregated seats in temples, blood-letting, marring your dead brother's wife, slavery, etc. are also traditional practices in the Bible.
Must be these traditionalists, they just hate gay people.
Antonovich's worth shows on Foothill
Is the number of years in office an indicator of a good public official, or is it character that matters most?
If we are to judge L.A. County Supervisor Mike Antonovich ("New ideas needed from supervisor," Aug. 4) by the conditions along Foothill Boulevard in La Crescenta, we can conclude that character and a genuine public concern matters more than just years in office.
As you drive eastbound on Foothill Boulevard from Lowell Avenue down into the county section, you'll see a transformation right before your very eyes. A run-down road lined with the blight of power poles, transformers and electrical lines turns into a beautiful road, with bike lanes, a skyline without the clutter, with trees and green-scape galore. The lovely new library is a sight to behold.
The contrast to a long-neglected Glendale portion of Foothill could not be more visible, yet Glendale has had Councilman Dave Weaver in office since 1997.
To have good government, you don't necessarily need a politician with a stack of years in government. You only need one who cares about the constituents' quality of life and can produce effective results.
