Glendale Community College officials on Friday recognized instructor John Queen for his service to the campus at a luncheon.
Queen, a faculty member since 1992, received the William L. Parker Award in recognition of his contributions to Glendale Community College outside of his specialty. The political science instructor served as president of the Academic Senate twice, and is the self-study chairman of the school's accreditation committee.
The award was named after its first recipient, a former a philosophy professor at the college, and is typically announced by the Senate president at graduation.
"I was expecting not to receive the award, actually," Queen said. "The committee faked me out; it was a bit of a conspiracy."
The award was established the same year Queen arrived at the college and the recipient is chosen by a committee of past winners.
