Raymond Daniel Sabo, 86, of Glendale, CA, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2010. He was born on December 24, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, the youngest of eight children. At age nine he moved with his family to Los Angeles. Ray attended Cathedral High School where he distinguished himself both academically and in football, basketball and baseball competition. Upon graduation in 1941, Ray accepted a basketball scholarship to St. Mary’s College in Moraga, CA. In 1943, his sophomore year, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, received officer’s training and served as a navigator on B 29 missions during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Ray returned to his education at U.S.C., where he was also a member of the Trojan baseball team.
In 1949, Ray married Rosemary Catherine Bowen at Holy Family Catholic Church in Glendale, where they purchased a home in Van Nuys. In 1951, Ray was recalled to military service during the Korean War and flew many missions in Korea through 1953, when he was again honorably discharged from the Air Force.
