PTA News: Family walk to school day is this week

October 04, 2010

With all the buzz these days about healthy lifestyles, International Walk to School Day on Wednesday is a great opportunity for parents and their children to get some exercise. This is an annual event, and this year at least 10 schools in our district are participating. Walk to school with your child, enjoy some fresh air, meet some friends along the way and get a little bit healthier. The entire month has been named "Walktober," in the hopes that families continue this great habit in the future.

The YMCA Quarterback Club has been meeting every Tuesday during football season for 82 years. Each week the group hears about our local football programs. Glendale, Hoover, Crescenta Valley and St. Francis High School, as well as Glendale Community College coaches each give an update. Membership is $50, lunch is $16 each Tuesday until Nov. 23. The event is held at the Elks Club, 120 E. Colorado St., Glendale. Call Susan Hunt for more information at (818)-241-3111, Ext. 566.

Prom Plus is asking for community support by adopting a duck for the annual Kiwanis Duck Race, which will be held on Oct. 23.

Adopting online is the easiest way to participate. Buy one duck for $5 or take advantage of the Quack Pack adoptions by buying five ducks for $25. Every participant in the Quack Pack program will be entered into a special drawing to receive a weekend in Las Vegas.
