"I could have done better, but I still did OK," said Chia, who will next participate in the CIF Southern Section Northern Divisional Individual on November 1 at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo. "I was able to get some more experience and that will help me for next year.
"It's going to be real cool [participating in the divisional individual]. It will be even more fun and I can take the experience I got [Thursday] that can help me."
Chia, one of seven players to advance, came into Thursday's round in a three-way tie for third at 77. The first round was held Tuesday at Brookside Golf Course No. 2 in Pasadena. On Thursday, Chia finished with two birdies.
Crescenta Valley first-year Coach Lee Pope, whose team finished 9-13 in league for fourth place, said Chia, who earned or shared medalist honors six times during league competition, held her own.
"She was right there with everybody else," Pope said. "I'm jazzed that she's moving on.
"She showed remarkable poise for a freshman."
Arcadia's Katherine Guo shot a 77 Thursday and won with an overall 150. CV's Deborah Chin did not qualify with a two-day 191.
