Kam joined the Boy Scouts in 1941 and achieved the rank of Life Scout.
"I still remember and can quote the virtues today of being trustworthy, helpful and loyal," he said. "The virtues were instilled in me as a young boy, and remained with me throughout my entire life."
Sorem shared how Scouting means more than just camping and hiking. Scouting serves as a moral compass for today's youth. It helps Scouts develop strong values and the ability to deal with every situation they may face in life, he said.
In 2010 the Verdugo Hills Council will register more than 6,400 youth in various Scouting programs. The projected number of units in this council is 240, with more than 2,000 registered adult volunteers in this local scouting program.

Donations cover costs of day camps, high adventure opportunities and personal growth camps, family involvement weekends, Scouting for Food round-up and Youth Leader Training. Woman's Club presents Author's Luncheon
Members of the La Crescenta Woman's Club are planning the annual Author's Luncheon on Nov. 8 at the La Cañada Flintridge Country Club, 5500 Godbey Drive, La Cañada Flintridge.
This year's speakers are Dianne Dixon, a television writer who has won the prestigious Humanities Prize for Excellence in Screen Writing, who will discuss her first novel, "The Language of Secrets"; Ronald C. White Jr., who has authored, among others, the best seller, "A. Lincoln, A Biography"; and Gregg Hurwitz, creator of many international thrillers, who is presently the consulting producer on ABC's "V."
