L'aureole welcomes new members

L'aureole welcomed three new members at a recent meeting at the Salvation Army. Jeri Adamson, Irene Goodell and Marilyn Wilton were introduced by Kathryn Kashuba, membership chairwoman.

Especially welcomed with an Honorary Membership was Helena Seltzer.

After the meeting, Captains Rio and Rachel Ray escorted the group on a tour of the Salvation Army facilities, with special emphasis on The Zone youth activities. L'aureole has financially supported these youth projects for a number of years.

Glendale Memorial is co-sponsor of event

Phyllis Currie, general manager of Pasadena Water and Power, is the final honoree in the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley's 2010 Women of Excellence Leadership Speaker Series. This installment is sponsored by US Bank, Glendale Memorial Hospital and the city of Pasadena and will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 11 at the La Casita del Arroyo Clubhouse, 177 S. Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena.

Since April 2001, the utility has been under Currie's leadership. During that time, the utility has built two new electric generation units (90 megawatts) at the city-owned power plant, embarked on multi-year infrastructure improvement programs to upgrade the city's water and electrical distribution systems and is building a water treatment plant to clean up groundwater contamination. Most recently in 2009, Currie developed an energy resource plan, which sets aggressive targets for greenhouse-gas reduction and increasing renewable resources; and water conservation plans aimed at preserving and encouraging efficient use of dwindling water resources.

Tickets for the Currie event are $35 and include refreshments, $45 at the door. Purchase online at or call (626) 296-8433. Proceeds will support YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley programs for girls and women.
