Rose float group holds online auction

The Glendale Rose Float Assn. is auctioning off two seats on Glendale's float in the 2011 Rose Parade.

The EBay auction can be accessed at http://tinyurl.com/FloatRide or directly through the online site, with auction number 200545255698, according to an announcement from the association.

Bidding ends Tuesday. The bidding starts at $750, and the winner can take one or both seats.

Little change in local jobless figures

Unemployment in October edged up in Glendale and held steady in Burbank, according to the California Employment Development Department.

In Glendale, the unemployment rate grew from 10.9% in September to 11% in October. In Burbank, the figure remained at 10.2%.

In Los Angeles County, the unemployment rate in October was 12.6%, the same as in September and slightly higher than the 12.3% figure for the same period last year. The statewide job picture remained unchanged with a 12.4% jobless rate.

Statewide, government, education and health care showed the greatest job gains, while the number of manufacturing, construction and financial services jobs slipped.

Motion picture and television production in Los Angeles County gained 1,000 jobs over adjusted September figures to 138,600, an increase of 0.7%. Retail jobs in the region grew by 0.8% to 382,900 jobs, according to the state figures.

In La Crescenta, the unemployment rate in October was 6.2%, the same as September. In La Cañada Flintridge, the rate remained 4.9%.
