Multiple arrests at DUI checkpoints
Police arrested three motorists Friday night on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during a multiple agency sobriety checkpoint, officials said.
Along with the DUI arrests, police performed 11 field sobriety tests on motorists, and impounded four vehicles, according to Glendale Police Department statistics.
Another 14 citations were issued, two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving without a valid license and two were taken into custody on felony-related charges, according to the statistics.
Police stopped 78 vehicles during the saturation patrol operation, which involved Glendale, San Fernando and San Marino police departments, Sgt. Dennis Smith said.
During the operation, San Fernando police officers arrested a suspect in connection with smashing a car window during a burglary, he said.
Two Glendale police officers also arrested a suspect in connection with two carjacking attempts, Smith said.
The operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.
Fire under investigation
Police and fire on Sunday were investigating a fire that destroyed three vehicles in an underground parking, officials said.
No injuries were reported in the blaze, which occurred early Sunday in the first-story parking structure of an apartment building on the 700 block of East Chevy Chase Drive, fire officials said.
Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to the second-floor, officials said.
Police and fire will be looking into the cause of the fire.
