Attempted murder charge filed in stabbing

Prosecutors have filed an attempted murder charge against a 24-year-old Sunland man arrested Saturday after allegedly stabbing a party host in North Glendale.

Enrique Barajas was taken into custody just before noon Saturday after hiding out within a police perimeter for more than six hours.

Barajas, convicted in February 2006 for being a felon and carrying a loaded firearm, was also charged with a felony count of burglary on Saturday, according to a Los Angeles County Superior Court criminal complaint.

The Police Department received a call about 3:40 a.m. on Saturday from a woman requesting help at a home on the 3700 block of Altura Avenue, where a party had been held.

Barajas got into a verbal shouting match with the party's host, Paul Pike, before fighting, according to police reports.

Barajas allegedly stabbed Pike in the neck, but the injuries he sustained were not life-threatening.

Another partygoer suffered minor injuries when he tried to break up the fight, police said.

Police quickly surrounded the home and neighborhood in an effort to find Barajas, with county sheriff's deputies and police dogs brought in to assist with the search.

Officers eventually tracked down Barajas, who was covered in dirt from trying to hide from police.

Barajas is expected to appear Feb. 2 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Burbank.

Prosecutors requested Barajas' bail be set at $1.1 million, according to the criminal complaint.
