CULVER CITY — For all the confidence the Glendale Community College men's basketball team gained after recording its biggest win of the season, it disappeared Wednesday night.

Riding a wave of momentum following a victory against Citrus on Saturday, the Vaqueros appeared sluggish throughout a 72-63 loss against host West L.A. in a Western State Conference Southern Division contest.

With Coach Brian Beauchemin serving a one-game suspension for arguing with an official against Citrus, assistant Coach Vigen Jilizian took over the coaching responsibilities. Jilizian offered a reason behind the Vaqueros seeing their five-game winning streak snapped.

"We did well in the Citrus game, and this was a trap game," Jilizian said. "We talked about that.

"[West L.A.] made the big plays. We were trying to make plays, but it wasn't there."

Glendale (14-6, 3-1 in the division) led once against West L.A. (8-9, 3-2). It came when forward Robert McQueen made a three-pointer to give the Vaqueros a 55-54 advantage with 7:02 left in the game. The Wildcats then outscored the Vaqueros, 19-8, the remainder of the way.

The Wildcats, who snapped a two-game losing streak, saw the Vaqueros pull to within 65-63 on a layup by McQueen. However, West L.A. regrouped by scoring the last seven points.

West L.A. point guard De Andre Davis made a three-pointer with 34 seconds left to give the Wildcats a 68-63 lead and essentially seal the game. Davis had 29 points.

"[Davis] sticks that three and that's big," Jilizian said. "They are an athletic team.

"We came back from nine in the second half and then they make a big shot. We couldn't sustain anything."

The Vaqueros received 13 points from McQueen and 12 from guard Narbeh Ebrahimian, a Crescenta Valley High graduate.

Forward Demetrius Perkins added 10 points for the Vaqueros.
