SOUTH GLENDALE— Crews were still investigating how an outside carport buckled and crashed onto at least eight vehicles Sunday night.
The carport collapsed onto the vehicles — some of which were new high-end luxury models with paper license plates — about 5:45 a.m. Sunday while their owners were asleep in the apartment building on the 1200 block of Boynton Street, authorities said.
No one was hurt during the incident, but several vehicles were damaged.
“Thank God it didn’t happen at daytime when the kids were here,” the building’s owner, Vardkes Bazikian, said.
Residents reported hearing a loud crash early Sunday, but no identifiable markings were found to show it was hit. Bazikian said residents denied crashing into the carport.
“Everybody is shocked,’ he said.
The collapsed carport remained on the vehicles Wednesday afternoon, although at least one resident was able to drive her vehicle out of the carport, city code inspector Che Hill said.
