Betty Jeanne Crawford Pinney

Betty Jeanne Crawford Pinney was born on September 8, 1920, in Los Angeles, California, to parents Pitzer Miller Crawford and Anna Johnson Crawford.  She died on February 13 in Glendale after spending an enjoyable visit with her family.

 Betty graduated from Los Angeles High School in 1937 and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA in 1941and a Master’s degree in education from USC in the late 1960s.  While at UCLA she became the President of the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.  After graduation she married Charles A. Pinney, Jr., and moved to El Centro, California, after World War II.

 In El Centro she became active in the Order of Eastern Star (Past Matron, 1964), Parent Teachers’ Associations, substitute teaching, and a tireless supporter of her active children.  She loved being surrounded by and counseling all children and was known for her loving spirit and fierce support of her family.  Travel, food, and the arts were lifelong passions she shared with her family and friends.

 Betty moved to Los Angeles and then Glendale in the 1960s when she became a school psychologist for the Los Angeles Unified School District.  She enjoyed being involved with her sorority as an alumna and volunteered at the Glendale Senior Center for over fifteen years.

 Betty is survived by her five children: Charles A. Pinney, III, of Del Mar, CA; Frank R. Pinney of South Lake Tahoe, CA; Jerome M. Pinney of Poway, CA; Peter P. Pinney of Fairbanks, AK; and Donna V. Guske of Montrose, CA.  She has twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be private.
