Daniel Cabrera

February 24, 2011

Age: 65

Occupation: retired Glendale Unified teacher

Cabrera, who earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and an MBA from Stanford University, has lived in Glendale for 38 years. He taught English at Glendale High School for eight years. His wife, Judy, worked within the district as an educational assistant for physically handicapped children. His three sons and two grandchildren attended Glendale Unified schools. He served as PTA president at Glendale high School, and on the 2015 Glendale Unified Strategic Plan Committee.

Why are you running for school board?

The school board is a natural extension of my service life in Glendale, after coaching Little League, being vice president of preservation for the Glendale Historical Society, and president of the Royal Canyon Property Owners Assn.

What does the district need to improve on?

To address budget concerns, Glendale Unified must help pass Measure S and improve collaboration with parents, the teachers union, businesses and civic groups to increase local financial support for our schools.

What is your stance on Measure S, and why?

I support Measure S because Glendale Unified facilities continually need updating. The bond is better than parcel taxes: 70% of California school bonds passed in 2010, but only 11% of parcel taxes.
