KIWANIS TERRIFIC KIDS PROGRAM
March 9 marked the beginning of a new pilot program at Thomas Jefferson Elementary called “Terrific Kids,” which is being sponsored by Burbank Noon Kiwanis. The club has also supported local schools through Key Club, Builders Club and many other programs since approximately 1922. Terrific stands for Thoughtful, Enthusiastic, Respectful, Responsible, Inclusive, Friendly, Inquisitive, and Capable. All students at Jefferson will participate in the program and receive growth incentives for their progress.
The program helps students attain important leadership skills. Participants learn the Terrific Kids character traits and how to establish and achieve “Smart” goals, goals that are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-oriented. Students will be rewarded after approximately a four-week period of working toward their goals.
Burbank Noon President Cynthia Faust is very excited, and with just cause. She had new Kiwanis member Diane Cripe dress up as Thomas Jefferson and talk about him and how the traits on the “Terrific” chart were used to write the Declaration of Independence.
The Kiwanis Club of Burbank meets at noon Wednesdays at the Burbank Community YMCA, 321 E. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank. For more information, contact Cynthia Faust at (818) 242-2261 or at 24ktldy@charter.net
INSTALLATION OF NEW MEMBERS
The Magnolia Park Optimist Club at its March 3 meeting welcomed four new members. President Evie Magnante introduced past Lt. Governor of the Optimist Pacific Southwest District, Jim “Silver Fox” Lloyd for the induction of the new members.
They were Jackie Bodley, Bud Bodley, Jon Olin and Bob Heins. After the formal induction, Lloyd charged the new members with five requirements of a good member—be involved in the club activities as much as possible, learn the Optimist Creed, visit the Optimist Youth Home, wear the Optimist pin, and last, but not least, bring new members. Welcome to these new members.
The Magnolia Park Optimist Club meets at 6 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month at the Burbank Elks Club, 2232 Hollywood Way, Burbank. For more information, contact Evie Magnante at (818) 845-3863 or at tonymags@sbcglobal.net.
