GLENDALE — When it was all said and done at the end of the 2010-11 season, the Flintridge Prep boys' basketball team had reached the peak of CIF Southern Section Division 5-AA.
Now the Rebels' senior center Kenyatta Smith likewise stands alone at the top of the division after being named Division 5-AA Player of the Year, as voted on by the division's coaches, upon Wednesday's release.
"After winning league and then CIF, this is a great honor," Smith said. "To be named [CIF Player of the Year] is icing on the cake.
"My goal was to help us get a CIF championship, but this is a great feeling because my teammates were able to help me out."
Smith posted season averages of 19.6 points, 14.8 rebounds and 4.8 blocks per game and was a dominant factor in everything the Rebels accomplished this season, from winning the Prep League co-championship, to defeating Muir, 47-44, on March 5 for the program's first-ever CIF title, en route to finishing the season 24-7.
