Students will experience Brazil on April 27 when they attend a performance by Viver Brasil at the Dads’ Club, said Publicity Liaison Madelaine Motallebi. This Los Angeles-based ensemble was founded in 1997 to cultivate Afro-Brazilian dance and music traditions and has developed work representing the traditional and contemporary Afro-Brazilian dance and music experience, said Deb Beyer, cultural arts assembly chairwoman.
The company received the prestigious Lester Horton Dance Award in 2000 for outstanding achievement in a company performance/non-Western dance. Students should expect a performance that is exciting, educational and entertaining with beautiful costumes, unusual instruments and acrobatics, Beyer added. These cultural assemblies are made possible by the efforts of the school’s PTA and its members.
The fourth annual Nike Reuse-a-Shoe Drive continues through Friday. Drop old tennis shoes off in the school lobby where the Green Team will collect them to be recycled into athletic surfaces for schools and playgrounds nationwide.
